CTF Polls PC Leadership Candidates

Author: Walter Robinson 2002/01/14

OTTAWA: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) today continued its "Leadership Week" with the delivery of issue and agenda questions to all candidates seeking the leadership of the Ontario Progressive Conservative party.

"We have now emailed and faxed all candidates and they should receive our original correspondence by week's end. On behalf of our 61,000 supporters, we are seeking the candidates' positions on issues ranging from fiscal policy to health care reforms," stated CTF federal director Walter Robinson.

CTF Questions to Candidates

  1. Why are you running to be Leader of the PC Party of Ontario What vision or agenda do wish to implement as Premier of the province

  2. Health care is the number one issue for Ontarians and Canadians. The CTF has proposed modernizing the Canada Health Act with five new principles of universality, public governance, quality, accountability, choice, and sustainability along with structural reforms in delivery and financing (including pre-funding) of health care. What reforms do you propose for our health care system

  3. What is your fiscal plan for Ontario In the midst of an economic downturn, what specific measures do you propose to keep Ontario's tax rates competitive, reduce our provincial debt, keep essential government services funded, focused and priorized

  4. Education reform has been a constant on the PC government's agenda. However, this focus has resulted in unhealthy tension between a variety of stakeholders in the education realm. Is this tension a concern for you and how do you propose to diffuse this situation

  5. What specific accomplishments are you most proud of given your service in government over the past seven years What role did you play in securing these accomplishments

Candidates will have until February 8th to respond to the CTF. Unedited responses will be published in the March/April version of the CTF TAXPAYER and published on the CTF web site at www.taxpayer.com near the end of February.
